Beautiful in any season, and home to Gorton Community Center, Lake Forest, Illinois, is located 31 miles north of Chicago on the west shore of Lake Michigan. With convenient public transportation on the Metra Union/Pacific North line, visitors from Milwaukee to Chicago can travel by public transportation to the historic Lake Forest train station just two blocks from Gorton. Guests are greeted by a vibrant business district, including the historic and charming Market Square.   Lake Forest’s historic downtown is home to several of Chicagoland's most popular retailers and a wide assortment of four-star and casual restaurants.

Gorton is also easily accessible by major interstate highways or Sheridan Road which winds along the shoreline of Lake Michigan.  Visitors to Gorton are welcome to free parking in the community center lot while they take advantage of visiting the historic village.  A variety of restaurants and unique shops are within walking distance of the center.  After your Gorton event stop in for a night cap and dessert at one of our restaurants or take a drive east on Deerpath Road to view Lake Michigan from the bluffs of Forest Park.
